Henry Gayden was born on November 30, 1979, in Memphis, Tennessee, and is an American screenwriter renowned for his work on films such as Earth to Echo, Shazam!, and There's Someone Inside Your House.
Gayden's early life and education were marked by his attendance at Memphis University School, followed by his enrollment at the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in English and radio-television-film. During his time at college, he worked as an entertainment editor for The Daily Texan. Upon graduating, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in screenwriting.
In 2013, Gayden contributed to the script for the 2014 science-fiction adventure film "Earth to Echo," which was later directed by Dave Green. His work on this project marked an early milestone in his professional journey as a screenwriter.
In 2017, Gayden was hired to revise Darren Lemke's script for the DC Extended Universe superhero film "Shazam!", directed by David F. Sandberg and starring Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Djimon Hounsou. The film received widespread critical acclaim upon its release. In August 2020, it was announced that Gayden would return to helm the script for the sequel.
In March 2018, it was announced that Gayden would write the script for the upcoming Netflix slasher film "There's Someone Inside Your House." The film is based on an adaptation of the 2017 novel of the same name by Stephanie Perkins and will be directed by Patrick Brice. The project is being produced by Shawn Levy's 21 Laps Entertainment and James Wan's Atomic Monster Productions. The film is expected to be released in 2021.
