Colorado-born Herk Harvey, a talented individual, pursued higher education in the field of theater at Kansas University, where he refined his skills in directing and acting for stage productions. Later, he returned to the same institution in a teaching capacity, sharing his knowledge and expertise with the next generation of performers.
Harvey's journey into the film industry began as an actor in various movies produced by Centron Corporation of Lawrence, Kansas, a renowned educational and industrial film production company. As his experience and confidence grew, he transitioned to a directorial role at Centron, overseeing the production of numerous films.
In 1961, Harvey took a working vacation from his duties at Centron, embarking on a new adventure in feature filmmaking. He co-starred, produced, and directed the eerie horror film Carnival of Souls (1962),shot on location in Kansas and Utah. This project showcased his versatility and creativity as a filmmaker, leaving a lasting impact on the horror genre.
