Eisei Amamoto, a renowned Japanese character actor, is one of the few personalities in Japanese cinema who is easily recognizable to Western movie enthusiasts. Standing at six feet tall, Amamoto's unique physical appearance, with his skeletal build, bony face, and wild hair, has inspired many to imitate his persona.
Notably, Woody Allen once dubbed Amamoto's voice with an imitation of Peter Lorre's in the 1966 film What's Up Tiger Lily?. However, Amamoto's own voice is surprisingly deep and resonant, considering his scrawny and sunken-chested frame. Interestingly, he had initially considered pursuing a career in politics, having studied law at Tokyo University, one of Japan's most prestigious schools.
