Howard Goldberg is a highly accomplished individual with a diverse range of skills and experiences. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in filmmaking and painting, and later went on to study at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at New York University.
Goldberg is the recipient of a Sundance Institute Fellowship, which he used to develop the screenplay for his film Eden, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 1996. He is also the writer, producer, and director of the Off-Broadway musical comedy Buskers, which starred Tony Azito and featured a book, music, and lyrics by Goldberg himself.
In addition to his work in film and theater, Goldberg has also made a name for himself in the music industry. He wrote and produced the cult classic feature film Apple Pie, which starred Tony Azito, Brother Theodore, Veronica Hamel, Irene Cara, and Calvert DeForest, and featured music by Daryl Hall and John Oates. Apple Pie was an official representative of the United States at several film festivals, including Deauville and San Sebastian, and played widely at cult and midnight showings.
Goldberg has also collaborated with other notable filmmakers, including Tobe Hooper, with whom he co-wrote the feature film Spontaneous Combustion. The film, which starred Brad Dourif, was directed by Hooper and featured Goldberg as an associate producer.
In addition to his work in film and music, Goldberg has also made a name for himself in the world of visual art. His drawings and sculptures are in many private collections, and he has created several public installations, including a series of four bronzes for the Oba Erediauwa, King of Benin, and three sculptures installed on the U.S.S. Intrepid National Museum in New York. A fine arts book of his drawings is also in the permanent collections of many libraries.
