Hyun Bin was born in 1982 to a loving family with a strong older brother. Despite his parents' initial reservations, he joined a theater club in high school, where he discovered his passion for acting. His father, who initially opposed his son's desire to pursue acting, eventually relented, but only if Hyun Bin was accepted into the prestigious Theater and Film Department of Chung-Ang University. Hyun Bin's hard work paid off, and he was accepted into the program.
After debuting in a minor role in the 2003 drama "Bodyguard," Hyun Bin began his acting career in earnest. He gained popularity with his roles in "Nonstop 4" and "Island," and his performance in "My Name is Kim Sam-soon" in 2005 cemented his status as a rising star.
Hyun Bin continued to experiment with different genres and characters, appearing in dramas such as "The Snow Queen" and "Friends: Our Legend," as well as films like "I Am Happy" and "Late Autumn." He won the grand prize at the Baeksang Arts Awards for his role in "Secret Garden" in 2011, and his decision to serve in the Marine Corps instead of capitalizing on his fame endeared him to fans even more.
After his military service, Hyun Bin returned to acting with a string of successful films, including "The Fatal Encounter," "Confidential Assignment," and "Rampant." He cemented his reputation as an actor who values both popularity and excellence, not only in TV shows but also on the big screen.
In 2020, Hyun Bin starred in the hit drama "Crash Landing on You," which became a global phenomenon and earned him the nickname "Hyun Bin Genre." He has since appeared in a string of blockbusters, including "Confidential Assignment 2: International" and "The Point Men," and has recently starred in the historical drama "Harbin," which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was released in December 2024.
Hyun Bin's next project is the Disney Plus original series "Made in Korea," which is scheduled to be released in 2025.
