Biography

Ian Comley, a highly accomplished and experienced visual effects professional, made a significant career move in 2014 by joining the London studio of Industrial Light & Magic as CG Supervisor on the highly acclaimed project, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This notable achievement was met with a VES Award nomination for Outstanding Animated Performance, serving as a testament to the exceptional quality of the work. This milestone marked the beginning of a four-year tenure as CG Technology Supervisor, during which Comley focused on providing strategic direction for key areas of ILM technology, including Facial Capture, Look Development, and Lighting. His expertise and leadership played a crucial role in shaping the global direction of these technology areas. In addition to his global responsibilities, Comley also played a key role in the rapid expansion of the London team, which included the embedding of ILM TV.

Todd Comley, a highly accomplished visual effects artist, concurrently lent his expertise as CG Supervisor to the notable film projects of Daniel Espinosa, including "Life" and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", thereby reinforcing his reputation as a versatile and skilled professional in the field of visual effects. Following this, he transitioned to the role of Associate Visual Effects Supervisor, where he took on the largest and most ambitious Digital Human project undertaken by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) to date.

Before embarking on his illustrious journey at Industrial Light & Magic, Comley spent a decade honing his craft at Framestore, where he systematically ascended the ranks to become a renowned authority in his domain.

During his tenure at Framestore, Comley made significant contributions to the creation of breathtaking imagery, including spearheading the establishment and leadership of the Pipeline Department.

He also played a crucial role as Look Development Lead for Alfonso Cuarón's critically acclaimed and multi-award-winning film, Gravity, for which he received a VES Award for "Outstanding Created Environment".

Comley's portfolio also boasts notable character developments, such as the iconic 'Rocket Raccoon' for Guardians of the Galaxy, 'Aslan' for Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and 'Paddington Bear' for Paddington.

Notably, Paddington marked Comley's first CG Supervisor role, further solidifying his reputation as a master of his craft.
