Biography

Ian joined Channel 4 in January 2018, assuming overall responsibility for the creative output of the network's diverse portfolio of channels and its on-demand viewing service, All 4.

As an experienced creative leader with a distinguished award-winning track record in both broadcast and newspaper journalism, Ian has been instrumental in greenlighting numerous critically acclaimed shows during his tenure at Channel 4, including The Big Narstie Show, Brexit: The Uncivil War, and the recent hit, It's A Sin.

Prior to his role at Channel 4, Ian served as editor of BBC Newsnight from 2013 to 2017, a period marked by the program's receipt of numerous awards for its exposés, including the Kids Company scandal, coverage of the Grenfell fire, and investigation into the massacre of Rohingyas in Myanmar.

Before joining the BBC, Ian worked in a wide range of roles at the Guardian, including features, foreign reporting, and launching the paper on the internet. Between 2010 and 2014, he held the position of Deputy Editor, overseeing the paper's coverage of the WikiLeaks data dumps and phone-hacking scandals.
