Writers/Directors Eshom and Ian Nelms, natives of central California, spent their formative years engaging in elaborate, two-hundred-man battles with G.I. Joe action figures, while simultaneously conjuring vivid, cinematic landscapes reminiscent of John Ford's iconic filmmaking style.
As they navigated their evolving passions, their paths diverged temporarily, with Ian pursuing a college wrestling scholarship, during which he discovered a newfound appreciation for English and Literature. Eshom, meanwhile, pursued an education in fine art painting, only to find his true calling in the world of comic book illustration.
Despite their individual pursuits, the Nelms Brothers always found themselves drawn back to their shared love of filmmaking. Ian has produced various independent projects, while Eshom has worked as a professional storyboard artist for over a decade.
The duo's collaborative efforts have yielded multiple award-winning short and feature films, including 2013's 'Lost on Purpose', which won numerous festival accolades, including Best Film, Best Directors, and Best Actress for Jane Kaczmarek.
Their 2015 film 'Waffle Street' went on to win the Woodstock Film Festival's Inaugural Carpe Diem Award for Best Film, as well as Best Narrative Film at the Hollywood Film Festival. The Nelms Brothers' latest feature film, 'Small Town Crime', boasts an impressive cast, including John Hawkes, Anthony Anderson, Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer, Robert Forster, and Clifton Collins, Jr.
Released nationwide on January 19th, 2018, 'Small Town Crime' received widespread critical acclaim from top critics at the NY Times, LA Times, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter, among others.
In addition to their directing and writing endeavors, the Nelms Brothers also produce several projects together. Their most recent collaboration is the series "Everyone is Doing Great", created by longtime collaborator James Lafferty, which they executive produced.
Furthermore, the Nelms Brothers are set to direct the thriller 'Capture' for Thunder Road, the production company behind the successful 'John Wick' franchise, which has grossed over $260 Million worldwide.
