Ian Toews is a prolific filmmaker and television series producer, director, and director of photography with a career spanning over two decades, dating back to 1996. His body of work is primarily focused on the natural environment, showcasing his passion and dedication to the subject matter.
Throughout his career, Ian has been involved in the production of numerous short films, television episodes, and documentaries. He has produced, directed, and served as director of photography for seven short films, more than 80 television episodes, and seven full-length documentaries. Some of his notable works include the Gemini Award-winning series Landscape as Muse and the Canadian Screen Award-nominated theatrical feature and digital media project Bugs on the Menu.
Ian's latest productions have garnered significant recognition in the industry. His documentary series Ageless Gardens was nominated for 11 Leo Awards, including Documentary Series, Direction, and Cinematography. Victor Cicansky: The Gardener's Universe was also nominated for a Leo Award in the category of Best Cinematography. Furthermore, Etthén Heldeli: Caribou Eaters was a Canadian Screen Award nominee for Best Documentary Program in 2020.
Ian's upcoming project, Visionary Gardeners, is set to premiere on VisionTV in 2022.
