Ilham Heydar oghlu Aliyev, a prominent Azerbaijani politician, was born on December 24, 1961. As the son and second child of former Azerbaijani president Heydar Aliyev, Ilham has followed in his father's footsteps, ascending to the position of president of Azerbaijan.
Ilham's journey to the presidency began with a two-month term as prime minister of Azerbaijan, which preceded his presidential election on October 31, 2003. Although the election was marked by irregularities, Ilham emerged victorious, taking office as the fourth president of Azerbaijan.
He was re-elected for a second term in 2008, and subsequent constitutional changes in 2009 granted him the ability to run for office indefinitely. This modification to the presidential term limits enabled Ilham to contest elections in 2013, 2018, and 2024.
Throughout his electoral campaigns, Ilham has been a stalwart member of the ruling party, playing a significant role in shaping the country's political landscape.
