Biography

Isabella Margara is a multifaceted individual of Greek origin, boasting a remarkable duality in her profession as both a writer and director. Notably, she also holds a degree in medicine, a testament to her diverse skill set, and is a member of the prestigious Royal College of Physicians in London.

Isabella's most recent achievement is the International Audience Award at Clermont-Ferrand 2023, which she received for her second short film, 'NOTHING HOLIER THAN A DOLPHIN'. This film has garnered significant attention, screening at major festivals worldwide, including Interfilm Berlin, Concorto, Helsinki, and IndyShorts, among others. Its impact and importance have been recognized by one of the largest environmental organizations in Europe, selecting it for its remarkable significance.

Isabella's first short film, '54 / THE BLIND TURTLE AND THE ENDLESS SEA', released in 2020, has also made a mark, screening in Oscar-qualifying festivals and being acquired by prominent television networks, such as CANAL+ in Central Europe and COSMOTE TV in Greece and Cyprus. Her talent has not gone unnoticed, as she has been selected for prestigious programs, including Sarajevo Talents 2021 and Les Arcs Talent Lab 2023, which invites only the most promising European directors.

Currently, Isabella is working on her third short film, as well as her debut feature film, 'BLACK WATER', a post-apocalyptic western with environmental and magical realism elements. The script is based on the highly acclaimed novel by Michalis Makropoulos, which received the Greek National Literature Award (Novel) in 2020. The book has recently been translated and published in France under the title 'Eau Noir'. The film project was presented at the Thessaloniki Film Festival Agora 2023, where it received the Finos Film award for a standout Greek project.

Isabella's creative work often explores the therapeutic aspect of art, delving into the relationship between humans and nature. She frequently employs emblematic female characters, the human body, and the threshold between reality and fantasy as narrative tools to convey her message.
