Ivan Ivanovich Tverdovsky, a Russian filmmaker, cinematographer, and actor, was born on December 29, 1988, in Moscow. He is the son of documentary filmmaker Ivan Tverdovsky, born in 1961. Ivan Ivanovich Tverdovsky graduated from the prestigious Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography "VGIK" in 2011, completing the experimental directing workshop of renowned filmmaker A. Uchitel.
Tverdovsky has been a participant and prize-winner at numerous national and international film festivals. He has twice been selected for the competition program of Kinotavr, with his short films "As If Waiting for a Bus" (2010) and "Space Dogs" (2013) earning him a jury diploma and critical acclaim, respectively.
His feature film debut, "Correction Class" (2014),received widespread recognition and won numerous awards, including the NIKA 2014 award for Discovery of the Year. The film also took home prizes for Best Debut and the Prize of Film Distributors at Kinotavr-2014, as well as top honors at festivals in Thessaloniki, Seattle, Tallinn, and Kiev.
Tverdovsky's second feature film, "Zoology" (2016),was met with critical acclaim and earned a prize for direction at Karlovy Vary. The film also won the Grand Prix at festivals in Cottbus and Austin, Texas, as well as awards for Best Actress and the Guild of Film Critics and Scholars at Kinotavr-2016.
His third feature film, "Jumpman" (2018),premiered in competition at Karlovy Vary IFF 2018. In 2020, Tverdovsky's new film "Conference" (2020) was selected for the Venice Film Festival, solidifying his position as a prominent figure in the Russian film industry.
Throughout his career, Ivan Ivanovich Tverdovsky has demonstrated a unique voice and perspective, earning him a reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative young filmmakers in Russia today.
