Biography

Joe, a multifaceted individual with a passion for storytelling, is a Writer, Director, and Producer with a lifelong membership in the Writers Guild of Canada. His professional journey began with the screenplay "The Hijacking of Studio 4," which was inspired by his experiences at TVOntario.

The project, a multi-camera shoot, required coordinating cameras, action, and dialogue in the studio and control room simultaneously. Although it was a challenging endeavor, Joe's resourcefulness allowed him to overcome the obstacles and bring the story to life.

As a filmmaker, Joe is always pushing the boundaries of his creativity, often running ahead of his resources. This has led to the development of several screenplays, including a twisted retelling of the Pied Piper legend. To bring this vision to life, Joe commissioned Paul Schultz to illustrate a graphic novel version of the screenplay, creating a storyboard for the film "The Piper," set in a futuristic past.

In addition to his work in film, Joe has also ventured into prose, publishing a collection of short stories called "5 Fables for the Young at Heart." These tales showcase his unique storytelling abilities and his ability to craft compelling narratives.

Joe's fascination with Shakespeare's works led him to explore the timeless themes and characters of "Romeo and Juliet." He delved deep into the play, uncovering hidden meanings and publishing three prose interpretations of the classic tale.

To share his knowledge and expertise with others, Joe conducted a course on "Storytelling OnScreen" at McMaster University, introducing the filmmaking process to storytellers from various disciplines.

Joe's most recent project, "Pit & Pendulum," was a testament to his resourcefulness and creativity. With a modest budget, he built and painted the set, sourced local talent, and mastered editing software to keep costs down. The film's central theme was the power of cinema to evoke vivid descriptions in the audience's minds, allowing them to fill in the visual details themselves.

Throughout his career, Joe has been driven by a desire to create stories that he loves to see himself. He believes in the importance of "enlightened entertainment," which is reflected in his work. As a proud resident of Hamilton, Ontario, Joe has found the perfect location for his creative endeavors, which he believes is the key to bringing his stories to life.

In Latin, "Gaudet" means "be happy," a fitting motto for Joe's approach to life and his passion for storytelling.
