Toronto, Ontario, Canada is the birthplace of a remarkable individual, English, who would go on to achieve great things in the world of engineering, television, and film. After graduating from McGill University with a degree in mechanical engineering, English began her career as a consultant at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young in Montreal, working for a year before transitioning to a career in television.
As a host and producer at TVOKids, TVOntario's after-school programming, English showcased her versatility and talent. She also appeared in numerous original TVO Kids series, including BOD TV, Artbot, Super Citizens, The Reading Rangers, and Jackie's School of Dance, for which she was the in-house choreographer. English's work on Jackie's School of Dance earned her two A.C.T. Award nominations.
In addition to her work in television, English is also an accomplished actress, with credits in both on-screen and stage productions. Her passion for storytelling and filmmaking led her to write and direct her first short film, NIMBY, which won first prize at the Toronto Urban Film Festival in 2011. The film was praised by judge Atom Egoyan as "extraordinary."
English's feature film debut, Becoming Burlesque, premiered at the Whistler Film Festival in 2017/2018 and went on to screen at the Canadian Film Festival and the Tryon Film Festival, where it won Best Film. The film's North American theatrical release was highly anticipated, and English was subsequently declared a Canadian Director To Watch by Broadway World.
