James Hung, a multifaceted Hong Kong film director, was reared in both Hong Kong and Los Angeles, where he initially embarked on his cinematic journey as a motion pictures post-production operator at the renowned Technicolor Los Angeles.
As he honed his skills at the world's most celebrated post house, Hung had the extraordinary privilege of contributing to numerous popular television shows, such as Grey's Anatomy and Ugly Betty, among others.
In 2008, he returned to his hometown of Hong Kong and assumed the role of first assistant director at Television Broadcast Limited (TVB),the leading studio in the Hong Kong Industry, thus launching his career in filmmaking.
Following years of hands-on experience in every aspect of film and television production, Hung rapidly emerged as one of the most promising young filmmakers in Hong Kong.
He went on to direct and produce top-notch commercials and music videos for globally recognized brands, including Universal Music Group, The Michelin Guide, Hutchison Whampoa, and Asia Society.
In the spring of 2012, Hung penned a thought-provoking and suspenseful feature-length screenplay titled The Seventh Lie, which garnered immense attention from the Hong Kong Film Development Council.
The council selected his script from hundreds of submissions and provided exclusive financing, marking the beginning of Hung's ascent as a feature film director.
The Seventh Lie received widespread critical acclaim at various international film festivals, including the Grand Jury Prize at the Barcelona International Film Festival, Best Foreign Film at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, Honorable Mention & Best Editing at the LA New Wave International Film Festival.
The film made its debut at the 2014 Chinese American Film Festival, playing out of competition.
