Before his successful acting career, James trained in music, dance, and acting in Los Angeles. He began his training in a hip-hop group in college and later landed his first TV audition on CBS's JAG in 1995. James is a commissioned poet of the LA County of Arts and the founder of Music & Flow, an interactive live-music and creative-writing experience, and Chromatic, an experimental performance troupe that improvises a musical show.
In addition to his creative pursuits, James is an athlete and avid runner, having completed the LA Half Marathon for Good Neighbors and their Water for Life campaign.
