Jim Powers, a retired American professional wrestler, is best known for his appearances with the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) from 1987 to 1994, under the ring name Jim Powers. Born in Washington Heights, Manhattan, Powers grew up watching wrestling at Madison Square Garden.
Powers' wrestling career began with an independent promoter on March 9, 2007, after a 14-year absence from the sport. He has since wrestled for several independent-based organizations, including NWA New Jersey, and has appeared at wrestling fan fests, meeting fans and signing autographs.
In 2007, Powers was contacted by WWE to be a part of their developmental territory and train wrestlers, but he never received a contract. Despite meeting with WWE booker John Laurinaitis, Powers was told that there were no available spots in the developmental territories, but would be called if one became available. Powers eventually lost faith in Laurinaitis' promises.
On November 15, 2008, Powers defeated Johnny LeDoux at FCW Broken Bones 2008. He then embarked on the Wrestling Legends Tour 2009, facing Joe E. Legend and Tatanka in March 2009. After a 14-year absence, Powers rejoined NWA New Jersey, teaming with Danny Inferno as the tag-team Fire Power, and defeating The Spirit Squad (Kenny Dykstra and Mike Mondo) to win the NWA New Jersey Tag-Team Championship.
Powers' final appearances came at "IWF Winter Warfare" for the Independent Wrestling Federation, where he teamed with Chachi to defeat Chris Steeler & Damian Adams on January 23, 2010, in West Paterson, New Jersey. He announced his retirement on February 3, 2010.
In 2012, Powers was hospitalized and underwent two hip surgeries. In July 2016, he was named part of a class action lawsuit filed against WWE, alleging that wrestlers incurred traumatic brain injuries during their tenure and that the company concealed the risks of injury. The suit was dismissed in September 2018.
Powers currently resides in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where he has lived for many years.
