James Preston Rogers was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Sandra and Robert Rogers, who had no idea that he would become a larger-than-life talent. Throughout his high school and college years, James was an athlete, but it wasn't until he went into an audition for a national commercial without a headshot, resume, or agent that he booked the role, realizing he had been searching for an outlet for his creative passions.
He found success in commercials and local stage performances, which led to an approach by the WWE to become a star wrestler. James jumped into the world of professional wrestling with both feet and quickly became a major star for the WWE. However, just as he was making a name for himself in the ring, James auditioned for and landed the role of "Bjorn" in the film Outlander opposite Ron Pearlman and Jim Caviezel.
This marked the beginning of a string of starring roles, including Sea of Change opposite Tom Selleck, and the indie film Poker Nights. The WWE eventually saw where James' career was headed and graciously released him from his contract, allowing him to dedicate himself entirely to acting.
James went on to star in Pixels opposite Adam Sandler and Kevin James, and recurred on the dramatic series Crash & Burn and the comedy series Walk the Prank. He also guest-starred on the hit series Reign. Recently, James has become a regular on the hit series Mayans MC opposite Robert Patrick, and has recurred on the HBO series The Righteous Gemstones opposite John Goodman.
In addition, James has guest-starred in Leverage and lent his talents to Love, Death, & Robots. He is set to star in the Al Yankovic film Weird: The Al Yankovic Story as Hulk Hogan opposite Daniel Radcliffe, and opposite Eddie Murphy in the new Beverly Hills Cop film.
Standing at 6'6" and possessing a commanding presence, James stands out in a crowd both literally and figuratively. His acting talent is equally impressive, and he has formed lasting bonds with Ron Perlman, Donnie Wahlberg, and Aidan Devine.
James' performance in Sea of Change left such an impression on Tom Selleck that he selected a scene with James and spoke about him during an interview on the "Live with Regis & Kelly" show. James is grateful and fortunate to have worked with some extremely talented people who have guided him and befriended him along his journey.
