James Whitaker was a renowned English journalist, renowned for his expertise in reporting on the British royal family. His educational background was at Cheltenham College, where he laid the foundation for his future career. Initially, he began his professional journey by working as an articled clerk in an accountancy firm, before venturing into journalism in 1963. He joined the Hounslow, Brentford and Chiswick Post as a reporter, marking the beginning of his illustrious career.

As his reputation grew, he moved to the Daily Mail in 1967, and later joined the William Hickey column team at the Daily Express in 1971. This marked a significant milestone in his career, as he became a part of a prestigious team of journalists. In 1975, he made a pivotal move to The Sun, where he formed a lifelong friendship with Royal photographer Arthur Edwards.

This friendship led to a new opportunity in 1979, when he joined the team on the launch of the Daily Star as its Royal reporter. He then moved to the Daily Mirror, further solidifying his position as a leading journalist in the field.

James Whitaker is also notable for his written work, particularly his book "Diana v. Charles", which chronicled the deteriorating relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
