Biography

Jaime Leopold, a native New Yorker, was born in the Bronx in 1946. Just five years later, his parents, Rose and Bernard, made the significant decision to relocate to Portland, Oregon, where Jaime would spend his formative years.

As the 1960s dawned, Jaime's sense of adventure led him to San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury, a hub of bohemian culture. It was during this period that he honed his musical talents, playing upright bass with the renowned genre-defying group, Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks.

After returning to Portland, Jaime's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish a highly successful marketing agency, which has since evolved into Leopold Ketel. This achievement was made all the more remarkable by his simultaneous role as a devoted husband and father, raising two daughters with his wife, Shirley Lewton.

In his later years, Jaime dedicated himself to his true passion: music. He formed a tight-knit group of talented musicians and began performing his original compositions. His remarkable life story was later immortalized in the 2017 film, The Last Hot Lick, directed by Mahalia Cohen, which drew inspiration from his extraordinary journey.
