Jason Stutter, a multifaceted filmmaker, initially made his mark in the industry as an editor before transitioning to the director's chair. Throughout his illustrious career, he has helmed an impressive six feature-length films, with his most recent projects including the 2024 comedy "Barbed Wire Canoe" and the spine-tingling thriller "The Dead Room".
Starring Jed Brophy, "The Dead Room" has garnered international attention, with IFC Films securing distribution rights in the United States. The film made its world premiere at the prestigious Sitges film festival, the largest genre festival globally, solidifying its place as a standout in the horror genre.
Prior to "The Dead Room", Jason directed the gothic comedy "Predicament", as well as the cult comedies "Tongan Ninja", "Diagnosis: Death", and "Edwin", which took home the best actor award at the Los Angeles Comedy Festival.
Jason is also the creative force behind the award-winning trilogy of short films "Careful with that...", which has screened at over one hundred international film festivals. In addition to his work in film, he has directed commercials for New Zealand's top advertising creatives, further showcasing his versatility.
As the founder of the successful Wellington-based production company Spooky Pictures, Jason has produced and directed numerous productions throughout New Zealand and internationally, cementing his status as a respected and in-demand filmmaker.
