Jay Bauman, a multifaceted creative force, was born in 1980 and is a director, writer, actor, and one of the co-founders of RedLetterMedia, a prominent American film and video production company, alongside his partner Mike Stoklasa.
As an independent filmmaker, Bauman initially pursued his passion for cinema before meeting Stoklasa at a filmmaker's forum in 2001. This chance encounter marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration, as they went on to work together on various projects, including films such as Gorilla Interrupted (2003),Feeding Frenzy (2010),and Space Cop (2016),all of which were released under the RedLetterMedia banner.
In addition to their film endeavors, Bauman and Stoklasa are also well-known for their engaging YouTube shows, including the popular movie review series Half in the Bag (2011),Best of the Worst (2013),where they discuss movies that are often criticized for being subpar or amateurish, and re:View (2016),an in-depth analysis of an older, sometimes forgotten film, or personal favorites. They frequently join forces with other talented individuals, such as Rich Evans, Jack Packard, and Josh Davis.
Bauman's creative approach often incorporates elements of comedy, incorporating absurdist humor, unexpected subject changes, and directional editing to keep his audience entertained.
