Jennifer Grey is an accomplished American actress who has made a lasting impact in the film industry, particularly during the 1980s. Her breakthrough role came in the iconic film Dirty Dancing (1987),opposite the late Patrick Swayze, a sleeper hit that would go on to become one of the biggest films of the decade.
Prior to her starring role in Dirty Dancing, Grey had already appeared alongside Swayze in the cold war drama Red Dawn (1984),where she played the character 'Toni,' a member of the 'Wolverines,' a group of renegade teenagers fighting for their country during World War III.
Grey's impressive filmography during the 1980s also includes starring roles in Francis Ford Coppola's The Cotton Club (1984) and the John Badham project American Flyers (1985). Her association with the 'Brat Pack' led to her being cast in John Hughes's hit comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986),where she played the older sister of Matthew Broderick and love interest of Charlie Sheen.
As the decade drew to a close, Grey headlined Howard Brookner's romantic drama Bloodhounds of Broadway (1989),which reunited her with Alan Ruck, and also featured Matt Dillon and Madonna. Since then, she has continued to work steadily, appearing in over 34 films and television shows, including If the Shoe Fits (1991),Wind (1992),and Bounce (2000).
Despite her extensive filmography, Jennifer Grey will undoubtedly be most remembered for her iconic role as 'Baby' in Dirty Dancing (1987),a performance that earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress.
