Jennifer Marshall, a proud Navy veteran and vocal advocate for the military veteran community, has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry. You may recognize her as the host of Mysteries Decoded on the CW, or as Max's mom on Netflix's hit series, Stranger Things. Her impressive resume also includes appearances on NCIS, Hawaii Five-0, and Nickelodeon's Game Shakers.
Marshall's journey into the entertainment business was unconventional, as she began her career in the United States Navy at the age of 17. She spent nearly five years in the Navy, serving on San Nicolas Island and the USS Theodore Roosevelt, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. During her time in the military, she worked in various roles, including aircraft handler, aviation logistics, and Ship's Security Defense Force Team, as well as the Repair Locker Fire Team.
In addition to her military service, Marshall was also a representative for the ship's Sexual Assault Victim Intervention program, advocating for sailors who had experienced trauma resulting from rape or sexual assault. She deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and earned her Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist designation. Marshall separated from the service as a Second Class Petty Officer after five years, earning numerous awards and decorations, including the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Meritorious Unit Commendation.
After her military service, Marshall graduated Magna Cum Laude from Virginia Wesleyan University with a double major in International Politics and Spanish, as well as a minor in History. She then received her graduate degree from American Military University in Administration of Justice, graduating with a 3.994 GPA.
Marshall moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in television and film, and is an outspoken advocate on veteran issues. She currently serves on the Veterans and Community Oversight and Engagement Board (VCOEB) on a Federal level and on the Veterans Committee for the 38th State Assembly in California. She is also the Executive Producer for veteran-centered mental health public service announcements through Make the Connection.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Marshall is a proud member of the American Legion and volunteers in her community by mentoring veterans looking to enter film and television, delivering food to homebound seniors through the local senior center, and raising funds for the award-winning non-profit Pin-Ups for Vets. Marshall believes in the power of volunteerism and giving back to the community.
