Jennifer Phang is a talented filmmaker with a unique cultural background, being a Berkeley-born daughter of Chinese-Malaysian and Vietnamese heritage. She graduated from the prestigious MFA Directing program at the American Film Institute.
Her sophomore feature film, Advantageous, won a Jury Prize at Sundance 2015 and was based on her award-winning short film of the same name, which was originally commissioned by ITVS's FutureStates anthology series. The feature film was also based on her award-winning short film, Advantageous, which premiered at Sundance and Tokyo International in 2008.
Advantageous was a critically acclaimed film that premiered at Sundance and Tokyo International in 2008, and was also screened at SXSW. It was later distributed by the Sundance Channel and nominated for a 2016 Film Independent Spirit Award.
Jennifer Phang is one of six women selected for the 2016 Women at Sundance Fellowship, and was also selected for the 2016 Warner Bros. TV Directors' workshop. She is being personally mentored by Emmy-winning producer/director Michelle MacLaren, known for her work on Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.
In addition to her feature films, Jennifer Phang is also a talented music video director. She wrote and directed "Glass Butterfly," a visually effects-intensive narrative music video.
