Edmund Gerald Brown Jr. is a remarkable individual with a diverse range of experiences and accomplishments. Born on April 7, 1938, in San Francisco, California, he is the son of Bernice Layne Brown and Pat Brown, the 32nd governor of California from 1959 to 1967.

After completing his studies, he began his professional career as a lawyer and eventually entered politics, serving as a member of the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees from 1969 to 1971.
In 1971, Brown was elected as the 23rd secretary of state of California, a position he held until 1975. At the age of 36, he was elected as the 34th governor of California, making him the youngest California governor in 111 years. He went on to serve two terms as governor, from 1975 to 1983.
During his governorship, Brown ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1976 and 1980, but was unsuccessful. He declined to run for a third term as governor in 1982 and instead made an unsuccessful bid for the United States Senate.
