Jerry's life began with humble beginnings, as he and his sister were raised by a single mother who struggled to make ends meet. From a young age, Jerry was forced to work multiple menial jobs to contribute to the family's daily necessities. However, his fortunes changed when he won a modeling competition for UNO Magazine, leading to a breakthrough in his career.
He quickly gained recognition by appearing in various music videos, TV shows, and print ads. His big break came when he was cast as the lead male role of "Dao Ming Si" in the wildly popular TV series Meteor Garden, which was based on the Japanese anime/manga Hana Yori Dango. This was followed by the four-part serial Meteor Rain and the sequel Meteor Garden II.
Alongside his three other male co-stars from Meteor Garden, Jerry formed the boyband F4, which became a massive sensation in Asia. The group was touted as the Most Popular Singing Group in the greater part of the continent, causing mass hysteria wherever they performed. With F4, Jerry released two best-selling albums, concert videos, and photo books, including his solo effort Amphibian, which was a huge hit.
In addition to his work with F4, Jerry also collaborated on various projects with and without the band. He became the primary endorser for several companies, including PEPSI, YAMAHA, Lupiao, S & K, and others. As a solo artist, Jerry partnered with the Bench company, becoming the official endorser of their I-Series apparel.
Jerry's acting career continued to flourish, as he appeared alongside Hong Kong superstars Karen Mok and Jackie Cheung in the made-for-TV movie Love Scar, Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng in his debut Magic Kitchen, and in other TV series such as Come To My Place and Girls Marching On.
