Jess Barbour is a multifaceted individual who dedicates herself to a trio of pursuits: acting, teaching, and being an Equity Member Candidate. Her academic background is impressive, having earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre from Elon University, a prestigious institution that has nurtured the talents of many notable thespians.
In addition to her formal education, Barbour has further honed her craft through rigorous training programs. This summer, she had the opportunity to study with the renowned Bill Esper at The Esper Studio's Summer Intensive in New York City, a coveted experience that has allowed her to refine her skills under the guidance of a master of the craft.
During her college years, Barbour was fortunate enough to attend the esteemed Broadway Theatre Project, where she had the privilege of learning from some of the most celebrated names in the industry. Her instructors included the incomparable Anne Reinking, the talented Ben Vereen, and the accomplished Frank Wildhorn, among others.
As a teacher, Barbour has had the pleasure of sharing her knowledge with students of all ages. She has served as the choreographer for several schools, including St. David's Episcopal School, Sanderson High School, and Apex High School, as well as working with the North Carolina Theatre's camps and productions. Her teaching expertise also extends to the realm of healthcare, where she serves as a Standardized Patient at Duke University, training medical students in the art of bedside manner.
Furthermore, Barbour has been an active advocate for anti-bullying initiatives, working with the NCT Conservatory to teach strategies to students in Wake County schools.
As a performer, Barbour has had a diverse range of experiences, having worked professionally throughout the Southeast and appearing in a variety of productions, including industrials, local and national commercials, voiceovers, television shows, independent films, and feature films. Her extensive resume is a testament to her dedication, versatility, and talent.
