Jessica Sula was born on May 3, 1994, in Swansea, Wales, to a multicultural family with a Trinidadian mother, Shurla Blades, who has Afro-Hispanic and Chinese ancestry, and a father, Steven Sula, of German and Estonian heritage. Growing up in Gorseinon, Sula attended Gorseinon College, where she completed her A-levels in Spanish, French, and Drama.
Sula made her television debut in 2011, playing the character Grace Blood in the fifth and sixth series of the popular British television series Skins. Following her breakout role, she landed a supporting role in the ITV comedy-drama Love and Marriage in 2013. In 2015, Sula was cast as the lead character, Maddie Graham, in the Freeform drama Recovery Road, alongside her Skins co-star Sebastian de Souza.
In addition to her television work, Sula has also appeared in several films. Her first big-screen leading role was in Honeytrap, a drama about a 15-year-old girl who sets up the murder of a boy who is in love with her. In 2017, she filmed the indie feature Big Fork, in which she played the main character, Emily.
Sula has also had recurring roles in other television series. In 2017, she had a recurring role in the limited series Godless. It was announced that same year that she would be a series regular for the third season of the series Scream, expected to air in 2019.
In her free time, Sula enjoys playing the guitar and practicing karate.
