Jô Shishido, professionally known as Joe Shishido or Joe The Ace, is a renowned Japanese actor who gained fame for his iconic role in the 1961 film "Fast-Draw Guy". Shishido's journey in the entertainment industry began with an audition for Nikkatsu Studio, where he was one of the select few to be offered a contract through the New Face contest.
Initially, Shishido started acting in drama films, gradually transitioning into the yakuza sub-genre of action and crime films. He eventually achieved recognition through his collaboration with Nikkatsu director Seijun Suzuki in the film "Branded To Kill". Although the film received a muted reaction upon its initial release and struggled at the box office, it ultimately led to Suzuki's departure from the studio.
Shishido continued to work in television and for other studios, accumulating over 160 film credits to his name. In a bid to stand out with a unique look, Shishido underwent cheek augmentation surgery, resulting in a distinctive appearance often likened to a chipmunk.
Tragically, Jô Shishido passed away at the age of 86 in January 2020 at his Setagaya, Tokyo home.
