Joaquin Martinez, a self-proclaimed lucky individual, was a medical student at Mexico City's University, struggling with shyness, until a teacher intervened by forcing him to join the school's drama group to overcome his perceived inadequacy.
Within this newfound world, he was awarded a scholarship to the renowned Seki Sano's Drama Studio, where he was trained and encouraged to pursue a professional acting career. After completing his medical studies, he transitioned into film, earning the PECIME award for Best Newcomer for his role in Pedro Paramo (1967),the Mexican entry at the Cannes Film Festival.
This recognition caught the attention of legendary Hollywood agent Paul Kohner, who extended an offer to Joaquin to try his luck in Hollywood for two years before making a definitive decision between a medical practice and an acting career.
