Joey Tempest, the illustrious lead-singer and frontman of the phenomenally successful hardrock band EUROPE, embarked on his remarkable musical journey in 1979 alongside John Norum. Fast-forward to 1982, and Tempest's efforts culminated in the release of the eponymous debut album "Europe", which catapulted the band to nationwide stardom in Sweden.
The subsequent 1984 album "Wings Of Tomorrow" enabled EUROPE to embark on a comprehensive Scandinavian tour, further solidifying their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Tempest's crowning achievement, however, was the creation of the world-renowned anthem of the 80's, "The Final Countdown", which ascended to the top of the charts in an astonishing 30 countries worldwide.
The fame and recognition that EUROPE garnered, courtesy of this iconic song and their subsequent albums, including "Out Of This World" (1988) and "Prisoners In Paradise" (1991),endured until 1993, when the band decided to disband. Undeterred, Tempest opted to pursue a solo career as a songwriter and singer, releasing the albums "A Place to Call Home" (1995) and "Azalea Place" (1997),which, although well-received in some European countries, failed to garner widespread acclaim outside of Sweden and Norway.
