John Dewey-Carter, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, relocated to Detroit, Michigan with his family at a young age. In his formative years, he began to develop his talents, performing as a local radio disc jockey and singing in the All-City Glee Club during grade school. His passion for performance continued to grow, as he actively participated in sports and the drama club during high school.
After graduating, John attended the Detroit Institute of Technology, where he majored in Speech and Drama. His academic pursuits were interrupted by a stint in the U.S. Army, during which he served in Vietnam before returning to the United States to pursue his acting dreams.
Upon his return, John began working in theatre in Detroit, performing with the Concept East Theatre, which led to his decision to relocate to Los Angeles to further his acting career. He eventually transitioned to television and film, landing supporting roles in numerous productions throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Some of his notable credits include appearances in The Incredible Hulk, The Dukes of Hazzard, T.J. Hooker, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Hill Street Blues, and ABC-TV's Sister, Sister. Additionally, John had a recurring role on the NBC-TV daytime soap opera Another World, playing the character Grant Todd from 1984 to 1985.
