John's journey from Memphis, Tennessee, began with a passion for basketball, but a surprising turn of events led him to discover his true calling in acting. During his high school days, he traded in his basketball shoes for the stage, and his decision proved to be a game-changer. He won the Arkansas state championship in the solo acting category, and his confidence soared.
John's academic pursuits took him to Huntsville High School, where he earned his diploma. He then enrolled at the University of Arkansas, graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in fine arts and drama. His time at the university was marked by significant achievements, including becoming the first student in school history to reach the national finals of the prestigious Irene Ryan acting competition as part of the American College Theater Festival.
After completing his undergraduate degree, John spent the summer of 1992 honing his craft at the Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival's acting company. He then attended UC Irvine on a chancellor's fellowship, graduating with a Master of Fine Arts in fine arts and drama in 1995. During his time at UC Irvine, he spent the summers from 1992 to 1995 as a member of the acting company at Shakespeare L/A.
John's professional acting career took off in Los Angeles, where he earned his Screen Actors Guild (SAG) card on a commercial directed by Todd Phillips. He went on to appear in numerous television shows and films, with one of his most notable roles being Luc, the cop from the popular TV series Good Girls.
In addition to his acting work, John made his debut as a writer, star, and producer in 2012 with the film Station Zero, which won Best Narrative Short at two film festivals: Outside the Box and Monaco Charity. When he's not on set or in the recording studio, John is the frontman, singer/songwriter, and rhythm guitar player for the band Good Ol' Country Railroad.
Despite his many accomplishments, John remains a devoted fan of basketball, a sport that initially brought him joy and later paved the way for his successful acting career.
