John Maclean, a talented individual with a passion for the arts, began his academic journey by pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in drawing and painting at the prestigious Edinburgh College of Art. His academic endeavors did not cease there, as he went on to earn a Master's degree at The Royal College of Art in London, further honing his skills and expertise.
After completing his formal education, Maclean's creative energy was channeled into the music industry, as he co-founded The Beta Band, a critically acclaimed band that enjoyed a successful run from 1997 to 2004. The Aliens, another musical project, followed suit, with Maclean serving as a key member from 2005 to 2008.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Maclean also demonstrated a keen interest in the realm of filmmaking. He directed numerous music videos for his own bands, showcasing his versatility and range as a creative force.
The year 2009 marked a significant turning point in Maclean's career, as he embarked on a journey into the world of short films. His debut short film, "Man on a Motorcycle," starred the renowned Michael Fassbender and garnered widespread critical acclaim.
Maclean's subsequent short film, "Pitch Black Heist," premiered in 2011, featuring Fassbender alongside Liam Cunningham. This critically acclaimed film went on to win the prestigious Best Short Film BAFTA award, cementing Maclean's reputation as a rising talent in the film industry.
In 2015, Maclean made his feature film debut with "Slow West," a critically acclaimed film that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and received international distribution. His sophomore feature film is currently in development, with anticipation building among fans and critics alike.
