John Nord, a retired American professional wrestler, embarked on his wrestling journey in late 1984 under the ring name "The Barbarian" for Mid-South Wrestling, managed by the renowned Skandor Akbar.
In the following years, Nord transitioned to the American Wrestling Association, adopting the moniker "Nord the Barbarian" and competing in both singles and tag team matches under the guidance of Adnan El Kassey. He frequently teamed with the formidable Bruiser Brody, with whom he faced notable opponents such as Greg Gagne and Jimmy Snuka in a triple main event at WrestleRock 86.
Nord's subsequent stint in World Class Championship Wrestling, managed by Gary Hart, saw him engage in a heated feud with Kevin Von Erich for the World Class Title. This rivalry culminated in a title challenge at the 3rd Annual David Von Erich Memorial Parade of Champions at Texas Stadium in 1987.
In 1989, Nord returned to the AWA, adopting the persona "Yukon John" and introducing a lumberjack gimmick, complete with an ax, blue jeans, flannel shirt, animal skin hat, and boots. He primarily competed in singles matches until forming a tag team with Scott Norton in 1990, known as the "Yukon Lumberjacks." This duo briefly feuded with the Texas Hangmen.
When the AWA ceased operations, Nord transitioned to Pacific Northwest Wrestling. In 1991, he joined the WWF as "The Viking," later changing his name to "The Berzerker" and being managed by Mr. Fuji. Nord's matches often ended with him throwing his opponents over the ropes, securing a "count out" victory, and exclaiming "Huss! Huss!" à la Bruiser Brody.
Nord participated in a 4-man elimination match at the 1991 Survivor Series pay-per-view event, ultimately being the last man eliminated for his team. He then engaged in a feud with The Undertaker, attempting to stab him with his sword at one point. In 1992, Nord won a 40-man Battle Royal, broadcast on WWF Prime Time Wrestling, before departing the WWF the following year.
In 1994, Nord joined All Japan Pro Wrestling, remaining there until 1997. He then surfaced in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1997, adopting bleach blond hair under his real name, John Nord. Nord primarily competed on WCW Saturday Night, enjoying a long winning streak that peaked with a match against Bill Goldberg on July 4, 1998. Although he lost the match, Nord briefly teamed with Barry Darsow before departing WCW.
After retiring from wrestling, Nord pursued a career at his brother's auto dealership, Nord East Motors in Hilltop, MN. He is also proud of his son, Joe, who wrestles HWT for the University of Minnesota as a junior in the 2009-2010 season.
