John O'Callaghan's journey began when he left home at 17 to pursue his passion for Computer Science at the University of Ulster in Belfast, Ireland. Simultaneously, he started acting with the Belfast Youth and Community Theatre, a unique initiative aimed at bringing together Protestant and Catholic actors.
As his interest in theatre grew, John attended the New Theatre school in Boston, Massachusetts, and later graduated from the program. He then decided to move to Toronto, Canada, where he quickly became a member of Canadian Actors' Equity Association and established himself as a working actor.
John's early success led him to New York City, where he starred in the one-man show "Rum and Vodka" written by Conor McPherson. The show was a huge hit, and he went on to perform it for NBC and HBO, selling out shows night after night. He also appeared in various productions at La Mama ETC and the Irish Repertory Theatre.
John's impressive resume led him to regional theatre credits, including the Cleveland Playhouse, before he moved to Los Angeles, where he currently resides with his son Odin and dog Charlie.
Recent performances include starring in "Howie the Rookie" by Mark O'Rowe at the Irish Arts Centre, directed by Emmy Award winner Nancy Malone, and playing Stephen Dedalus in "Bloomsday on Broadway".
John has also premiered in several productions, including Marina Carr's "By the Bog of Cats", Conor McPherson's "Rum and Vodka", and Mark O'Rowe's "Howie the Rookie" and "The Live Full Monty" at the New Yorker Theatre.
In addition to his stage work, John regularly performs with California's Artists Radio Theatre and LAShorts at the Getty. His film and TV credits include "We Were The Mulvaney's", "The Agency", "Clutch", "Deep In My Heart", "Haven't We Met Before", and "Gangs of New York".
