Biography

JP Miller, a celebrated and accomplished children's book illustrator and Disney studios character designer, has left an indelible and lasting impression on the world of animation and illustration. Following the completion of his studies at the prestigious Grand Central Art School in New York, Miller made the bold and courageous decision to relocate to Hollywood, a city vastly different from his native New York, during the tumultuous and economically challenging times of the Great Depression. This pivotal and life-altering move ultimately led him to secure a position within the storied walls of Disney's story department in the year 1934, where he had the unique privilege of witnessing firsthand the studio's remarkable and transformative evolution from producing a variety of short films to the creation of feature-length productions.

Miller's tenure at Disney was characterized by a prolonged era of unprecedented growth and artistic flourishing, as the esteemed studio dramatically expanded its creative horizons and technical capabilities, ushering in a new era of cinematic innovation and excellence. Nevertheless, his remarkable stint at Disney was subsequently interrupted by his honorable service in World War II, a period of great turmoil and sacrifice that would forever alter the course of history.

Following the war, Miller and a distinguished group of fellow Disney veterans, who had honed their craft under the visionary leadership of Walt Disney, were recruited by the esteemed Golden Books to create a plethora of iconic images that would captivate and inspire generations of children, leaving an indelible mark on the world of children's literature and entertainment.

Noted illustrator, Miller, maintained a prolific career as a freelance artist for an extraordinary duration, persisting to create stunning visual masterpieces well into his eighth decade of life, ultimately bequeathing a lasting legacy of exquisitely crafted artwork.

In celebration of his extraordinary and numerous contributions to the world of illustration, a distinguished exhibition featuring his remarkable body of work was meticulously curated and presented at the esteemed Donnell Library Center, strategically located in New York City, directly across from the renowned Museum of Modern Art, a cultural institution widely recognized for its unparalleled collection of modern and contemporary art.

JP Miller's extraordinary existence drew to a close, leaving behind his half-brother, George E. Miller, who shared the same Manhasset residence.
