Biography

John Rushing is a multifaceted Los Angeles-based actor, producer, and coach who has built a diverse career spanning television, film, and theater. As a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and Actors' Equity, John's training in Meisner's technique at Chicago's esteemed theater institutions and further honed his craft with the renowned SITI Company have been instrumental in shaping his acting prowess.

Born and raised in Corsicana, Texas, a small farm town near Dallas, John spent his childhood days fishing, riding horses, and performing in local theater productions. His Texan roots run deep, with John being a sixth-generation native of the Lone Star State.

John's academic pursuits have taken him to Calvin College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, and later to Oxford, where he obtained a Master of Philosophy degree. He also holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Texas School of Law.

In addition to his acting work, John has shared his expertise as a master-level acting coach at both the Margie Haber Studio and Zack Barnett Studio (ZBS). His coaching played a pivotal role in Max Donnovan's breakout performance on the Netflix comedy That '90s Show.

Beyond his acting endeavors, John has worked extensively behind the scenes, developing television and film projects. His producing credits include VR360 production in Antarctica, on-set coaching for two feature films, and directing an award-winning short film.

John also serves on the Board of IAMA Theatre Company, a highly regarded Los Angeles theater company recognized by Playbill as one of the "40 Regional Theaters You Must Know."

On-screen, John is best known for his recurring role as Mortonson on The Young and the Restless.

When he's not acting or practicing law at Rushing McCarl LLP, where he was named a Super Lawyer for 2025, John can be found on the water. A passionate sailor, he has rounded Cape Horn, competed for the US 11 Meter Team in the Scandinavian Nationals, and crewed the 2015 Transpac.
