Jon Fauer, ASC, a renowned cinematographer, has been fascinated with film since he was just eight years old. His early interest in the medium led him to attend Collegiate School in New York, where he graduated with honors in Art and Film from Dartmouth College.
Under the guidance of mentors such as screenwriter-director Maurice Rapf, director Joseph Losey, cinematographer Andrew Laszlo, ASC, and film historian Arthur Mayer, Jon Fauer honed his skills in filmmaking. His work on the one-hour television documentary "Losey on Film," directed and filmed with a grant from PBS, showcased his talent and led to further opportunities in the industry.
Immediately after graduating from Dartmouth, Jon Fauer embarked on his first major film project, "Wildwater," which he produced, directed, and shot on location at the World Kayak Championships in Italy. The film's success and subsequent awards led to a string of documentaries and action-adventure specials for ABC, PBS, American Sportsman, and National Geographic around the world.
Jon Fauer's work in the film industry earned him membership in prestigious organizations such as The Explorers Club, the International Cinematographers Guild (ICG),the Directors Guild (DGA),and the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC).
As a camera operator, Jon Fauer worked on numerous features, including "Top of the Hill," starring Wayne Rogers, Elke Sommer, Sonny Bono, and Mel Ferer. He then transitioned to Director of Photography, working on features, television films, television series, and commercials.
Jon Fauer's impressive resume includes credits as 2nd Unit Director of Photography on "All the Right Moves" and "Remo Williams," Director of Photography on the series "Tales from the Darkside," the title sequences for "Bonfire of the Vanities" and "Angie," and Director of Photography on many major campaigns for prominent brands such as Coca Cola, Chrysler, Ralph Lauren, Ponds Institute, Johnson & Johnson, Mercedes, and GE.
As a Director-Cameraman, Jon Fauer worked on high technology and high fashion commercials, earning numerous awards for Best Director and Best Cinematography. His notable campaigns include work for Neutrogena, Rhinocort, Porcelana, Pontiac, Buick, US Coast Guard, Snickers, Canon Cameras, Sears, and Blistex.
Jon Fauer is also a published author, having written ten best-selling books on cinematography and digital imaging, published by ASC Press, ARRI, and Focal Press. With over 110,000 copies printed, his books have become essential texts for camera assistants and professionals in the industry.
In addition to his writing, Jon Fauer is the publisher of Jon Fauer's Film and Digital Times, a bimonthly newsletter on technique and technology in film, digital, and video production.
Most recently, Jon Fauer completed production on the feature documentary "Cinematographer Style."
