Biography

Jon Sorensen, a Scottish native, was fortunate enough to be reared in the picturesque rural landscapes of Scotland, where his childhood was deeply influenced by the warmth and wisdom of his grandmother, as well as the captivating world of cinema.

As he embarked on his professional journey in the film industry, Jon was generously sponsored by a prestigious group of renowned Directors of Photography, including the esteemed Peter Suschitzky, Alex Thomson, Alan Hume, and the talented Brian Johnson, an Oscar-winning Visual Effects Supervisor, who have all played a significant role in shaping his career.

Jon's inaugural foray into the professional realm was marked by a stint of abode-hopping, ultimately settling into a makeshift sleeping bag residency within the storied confines of Peter Cushing's former studio dressing room, a humble abode that would forever hold a special place in his heart. It was during this period of artistic incubation that he had the profound good fortune to receive sage counsel from the likes of the esteemed Ray Harryhausen, the visionary Lindsay Anderson, and the inimitable Sir Alec Guinness, whose collective wisdom and expertise would prove invaluable in shaping his future endeavors. As he navigated the intricacies of the industry, Jon went on to contribute his skills to a dozen prominent feature films, working in tandem with the visual effects and camera departments to bring a wide range of cinematic visions to life.

Jon's professional journey took an intriguing turn as he ventured into the realm of direction and production in television drama and commercials, showcasing his expertise as a skilled director of photography (DP). Primarily operating in the European market, Jon's impressive portfolio boasts a multitude of commercials that bear his creative stamp.

In addition to his work as a DP, Jon also took on the role of visual effects director, further expanding his repertoire of skills. His passion for storytelling led him to explore the realm of screenwriting, where he penned his own original screenplays. One of his most notable achievements in this regard is the British television drama, "A Return to Love," which Jon had the distinction of writing, producing, and directing himself.

This supernatural tale, a testament to Jon's versatility and creativity, marked his first produced screenplay, a milestone in his already impressive career.

Jon is a multi-talented individual who has not only excelled as a director and writer, but has also honed his skills in various other creative areas, including camera operation, music editing, and sound design. In fact, Jon was responsible for designing and directing a total of 35 visual effects shots for a particular project, showcasing his impressive range of skills and expertise.

Moreover, Jon holds a unique distinction as the only individual in the United Kingdom who will, within the next decade, have achieved the remarkable feat of producing, writing, and directing the sole independent science-fiction feature film to have been distributed in the United States. This achievement is all the more remarkable given that it is his debut feature film, "Alien Blood", which was released in 1999.
