Biography

Jonathan Martin is a multi-award winning writer, producer, and director with a prolific career spanning over a decade. Since 2011, his films have garnered over 250 festival and industry awards, showcasing his unique ability to craft stylish, entertaining, and slickly produced productions that transport audiences to fantastical worlds.

Apart from his work behind the camera, Martin is also the founder of the genre film festival FilmQuest, which has become one of the most respected and internationally recognized festivals in the world. Established in 2014, FilmQuest has been named one of MovieMaker Magazine's "30 & 50 Bloody Best Genre Film Festivals on the Planet" in 2018 and 2020, as well as one of its "Top 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" twice. The festival has created a thriving community for genre cinema's rising stars, where talent is celebrated and connected in a way that fosters growth and collaboration.

Martin's production company, Bohemian Industries, was founded in 2010, and his filmmaking journey began with documentary and videography work before transitioning to narrative filmmaking. His first short film, "An Evening with My Comatose Mother," premiered in 2011 and went on to become the most awarded horror short film of all time, holding the record for five years and winning 76 festival and industry awards.

Following the success of "Comatose," Martin delved into music videos, commercials, and short films, further exploring the genre filmmaking landscape. His sci-fi music videos "Electric Light" (2012) and "Gravity" (2020) showcased his ability to craft visually stunning and thought-provoking stories. He also created the romantic fantasy music video "I'll Always Be Young" (2013),the horror videos "Demons" (2018) and "My Eternity" (2016),and the dark fantasy short "Kiss the Devil in the Dark" (2018),which starred Doug Jones and won over 50 awards.

In collaboration with his sister, Rebecca Martin (XIX),Jonathan created the Gothic horror throwback short film "Creatures of Whitechapel" (2016),which surpassed the success of "Comatose" and won 87 festival and industry awards, including a world premiere in Oscar-qualifying competition at the prestigious Sitges Film Festival.
