He began his academic journey at the University of Iowa, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Comparative Literature, with a focus on documentary filmmaking.
Prior to his time at the University of Iowa, Jonathon had the opportunity to study art and photography in the City of Light, Paris, through the prestigious Parsons School of Design.
This formative experience in Paris had a profound impact on Jonathon, igniting a passion for cinema that would shape his future endeavors.
Jonathon's feature-length directorial debut, Love Me, received critical acclaim and was officially selected for the esteemed HotDocs Film Festival in Toronto.
The film's premiere and subsequent success at HotDocs led to its distribution in over 20 countries worldwide, and it is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
His sophomore feature documentary, Ghosts of the Republique, is a powerful exploration of the trials and tribulations of a gay French couple attempting to create a child through surrogacy, despite France's national ban against surrogacy.
In addition to his work as a director, Jonathon has also demonstrated his skill as a Director of Photography on the critically acclaimed international film, Out of the Village, which has premiered at over 70 film festivals worldwide.
