Biography

Jonita Gandhi is a Canadian playback singer known as Toronto's Nightingale, born in New Delhi, India, and raised in Toronto, Canada. Growing up with strong influences in Canadian culture and a close connection to her Indian heritage, she has become a young and promising new talent in the music industry.

Jonita began performing on stage at the age of 4 and has pursued a musical career while maintaining academic excellence, completing her BHSc and HBA at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. Her versatility as a singer spans across various genres, including Sufi, Bollywood, Western Classical, RnB, Pop, and Soft Rock, and she has sung in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, German, Italian, and French.

In 2012, Jonita's career gained international recognition after her cover of Pani Da Rang was viewed by over 5 million people worldwide, leading to collaborations with prominent Bollywood personalities and her first Bollywood break in the title track of Chennai Express. She has since collaborated with several YouTube artists, including Arjun Coomaraswamy, and has performed on TV shows such as Music Mojo and MTV Coke Studio.

Jonita's successes have brought her star-studded opportunities, including touring alongside Sonu Nigam and performing as the lead female vocalist in A.R. Rahman's North American Intimate Tour series. She has also collaborated with ten-time Grammy award winning musician Carlos Santana and regularly records and performs alongside A.R. Rahman, Salim-Sulaiman, and Amit Trivedi.

Jonita has performed several times on local and international television, including the Mirchi Music Awards Ceremony in Mumbai, and has recorded for Bollywood film songs, jingles, and regional films. Her biggest break was when she recorded her first Bollywood solo with A.R. Rahman: 'Kahaan Hoon Main' from the movie Highway (2014). Since then, she has had the opportunity of working with Rahman on several Bollywood and Kollywood tracks, as well as two songs in his album "Raunaq" for politician Kapil Sibal.
