Jonathan Huw Sweet was born in Nottingham in 1985 to a solicitor father and a school-teacher mother. He attended Nottingham High School before pursuing higher education at Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he earned a first-class degree in English.
During his time at Cambridge, Sweet became a part of the renowned Footlights Review, alongside Simon Bird and Joe Thomas, who would later co-star in the popular comedy series "The In-Betweeners". This marked the beginning of a long-standing creative partnership between the three friends.
Sweet's early career in the entertainment industry saw him take to the stage at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, both as part of a duo with Joe Thomas and as a solo stand-up comedian. His solo routine, "About Arthur", centered around a fictional brother and earned him the prestigious award for Best Newcomer.
Abandoning his initial aspirations to enter the publishing world, Sweet transitioned to television, making his mark with a standout performance as Prime Minister David Cameron in the satirical documentary "When Boris Met Dave". He also appeared in guest roles on youth-oriented sitcoms such as "The In-Betweeners" and "Off the Hook".
In 2011, Sweet, along with Bird and Thomas, co-created and starred in the comedy series "Chickens", which explored the lives of lads who failed to enlist in World War One. The show was well-received and marked another successful collaboration between the trio.
Sweet continued to hone his craft, writing and starring in the romantic sitcom "Together" in 2015, opposite Cara Theobold. The same year, he co-founded his own production company, Guilty Party, with Simon Bird. This venture has allowed Sweet to take on a more prominent role in the creative process, bringing his unique perspective and sense of humor to the forefront.
