Joost van Ginkel, a renowned Dutch filmmaker, began his cinematic journey by producing his first short film, SAND, in 2008. This ambitious solo project was selected for the prestigious 2008 Venice Film Festival, earning 13 international awards and serving as the Dutch submission for the Academy Award Best Live Action Short. His subsequent short film, KISS, was featured at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival.
Van Ginkel's feature film debut, 170 HZ, garnered significant recognition, including nominations for Best Actress and Best Sound Design, and won the YouthMovieSquad Award and the Public's Choice Award at the 2011 Netherlands Film Festival. Additionally, 170 HZ was selected for the 2011 Busan International Film Festival.
In his second feature film, THE PARADISE SUITE, released in 2015, van Ginkel masterfully weaves the lives of six individuals, each with their own unique backstory, into a poignant and captivating narrative set against the backdrop of Amsterdam. This thought-provoking film is a powerful exploration of human resilience in the face of adversity, set against the complex backdrop of 21st-century Europe.
THE PARADISE SUITE has been recognized as the official entry from the Netherlands for the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category and had its world premiere at the International Film Festival Toronto 2015 in the Discovery section.
Currently, Joost van Ginkel is hard at work on his third feature film, BO, which promises to be another captivating and emotionally resonant cinematic experience.
