Joseph Alan Johnson was born on June 25, 1957, in Charleston, West Virginia. His early start in stage plays was encouraged by his mother's actor cousin, Clay Tanner, who instilled in him a passion for the craft. Johnson went on to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, where he honed his skills and prepared for a career in the entertainment industry.
Following his studies, Johnson made the move to Hollywood, California, to pursue his dreams. He quickly gained recognition as Neil in the cult classic "The Slumber Party Massacre," a role that would remain his most iconic to this day. Johnson's talent didn't stop at film, as he also made appearances in TV commercials and episodic television.
However, Johnson's career in Los Angeles eventually came to a halt, and he made the decision to relocate to Italy. For the next three years, he worked on Italian TV movies and provided English dubs for Italian films. After his time in Italy, Johnson returned to Los Angeles and turned his attention to screenwriting. He penned a few scripts, with one of his most notable works being the screenplay for the horror film "Iced," which he also starred in.
Despite his initial success as a screenwriter, Johnson's career ultimately failed to take off. He made the difficult decision to leave the entertainment industry behind and move to St. Petersburg, Florida, to care for his ailing parents. During his time in Florida, Johnson continued to stay active in the world of theatre, performing in stage plays as a member of the Early Bird Dinner Theatre group in Clearwater, Florida.
In addition to his acting work, Johnson also wrote plays and portrayed the legendary horror author Edgar Allan Poe in a one-man show that he wrote. Sadly, Joseph Alan Johnson passed away on June 10, 2020, at the age of 62.
