Joseph, an award-winning lawyer-turned-filmmaker, is driven by a passion for diasporic narrative. His debut feature documentary, "JERONIMO", tells the captivating story of a Korean Cuban revolutionary, captivating over 20,000 audiences upon its Korean theatrical release. Furthermore, the film received widespread acclaim, being selected at 17 international film festivals and garnering several prestigious awards in its wake.
Before devoting himself to "JERONIMO", Joseph spent four years as an in-house counsel at the Manhattan-based South Korean government agency, KOTRA. During this tenure, he advised Korean companies and entrepreneurs on US intellectual property and startup law, with a primary focus on soft IP law. His responsibilities included assisting companies in developing business strategies centered around their intellectual property assets and implementing measures to prevent potential IP disputes with US counterparts.
Joseph's commitment to the Korean American community is evident through his involvement with KSE (Korean Startups & Entrepreneurs),a non-profit organization aimed at empowering Korean-American entrepreneurs in the US. He served on the steering committee, working to promote the interests of this vital community.
Currently, Joseph is immersed in the post-production phase of his upcoming documentary, "CHOSEN", which follows the journeys of five Korean Americans running for US Congress in November 2020. This thought-provoking film explores the complex roles these individuals play in both the US and Korea.
