Appignanesi's second feature film, The Infidel, is an independent comedy that tells the story of a Muslim man who discovers he was actually born a Jew. The film received critical acclaim and was a commercial success, grossing over $1 million on its opening weekend and pre-selling to distributors around the world. It was also selected for the Tribeca Film Festival's new distribution outfit.
Appignanesi's debut feature, Song of Songs, was a psychological drama that explored themes of religious desire. The film starred Natalie Press and was produced by Gayle Griffiths. It received critical acclaim and was selected for several film festivals, including the Edinburgh Festival, Rotterdam's Tiger Awards, and the British Independent Film Awards.
