Jovanna Huguet's Early Life and Upbringing
Born to a Peruvian mother and Canadian father, Jovanna Huguet grew up in Vancouver, Canada, where she was fortunate enough to learn English and French in school, while speaking Spanish at home with her family. Her mother, who had a passion for dance, recognized Jovanna's natural ability to move at a young age and enrolled her in ballet at the age of 5.
Early Exposure to Dance and Performance
Jovanna's love for dance and performance grew as she spent more time at home creating made-up ballets and plays for her younger sister. Her first performance on stage was a milestone, as she realized she could communicate and entertain people through movement. She joined the school choir and theater program, participating in every school play, musical, and recital, always seeking more time in the spotlight.
Pursuing a Career in Dance
At the age of 9, Jovanna was accepted into the prestigious Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, where she worked hard and completed all her RAD examinations with honors. She was then awarded a merit scholarship to the Walnut Hill School in Natick, Massachusetts, where she became a principal dancer in the National Youth Ballet and had the opportunity to work with the renowned Boston Ballet.
A Career Change and New Beginnings
However, an unfortunate injury at the age of 12 forced Jovanna to reevaluate her career as a ballet dancer. She moved to New York City, where she found inspiration working with Ellen Jacobs Associates, a publicity firm that represented some of the most prominent dance choreographers and companies in the US and worldwide.
Discovering a New Passion for Acting
Jovanna's time in New York City watching performances and mingling with famous choreographers and dancers slowly took a toll on her heart, and she realized she needed to get back on stage. She auditioned for a scholarship at a film and television studio, winning the award and beginning her training as an actor at the Weist-Barron Studio.
Pursuing a Career in Acting
After leaving her life in New York City as a publicist, Jovanna moved back to Vancouver to study full-time at the Vancouver Film School. Upon graduation, she had never been happier about her decision, knowing she had made the right choice when she booked the lead in a feature film right out of school and secured an agent.
Personal Philosophy and Current Life
Jovanna prides herself on learning about who she is every day, so she can be the most truthful actor, storyteller, and friend. She continues to study and work hard at her craft daily, finding great inspiration from her peers, friends, and family. Jovanna lives in Vancouver with her husband Andrew.
